The Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI) exam covers basic physical principles and instrumentation knowledge essential to sonography professionals. The SPI exam must be passed in order to earn certain credentials. It costs $200 and is available at any Pearson VUE testing facility.

The SPI exam is two hours long and contains 110 multiple-choice and Semi-interactive Console (SIC) questions.

    • New Technologies
  • Physical Principles – 15%
  • Ultrasound Transducers – 16%
  • Imaging Principles & Instrumentation – 28%
  • Doppler Imaging Concepts – 31%
    • Hemodynamics
