The registered medical assistant (RMA) certification is awarded by the American Medical Technologists (AMT). This certification requires an individual to have worked as a medical assistant for at least five years, or have graduated from an approved Medical Assistant Program.

Medical assistants are the esteemed health care professionals who assist physicians in helping with paperwork, greeting patients and conducting minor procedures such as checking blood pressure. The medical assistant certification is voluntary, although may be considered as a condition of employment for some employers. The RMA credential is awarded by the American Medical Technologies (AMT) board.
