The Examination for Professional Practice of Psychology (EPPP) is intended to evaluate the knowledge that the most recent practice analysys has determined as foundational to the competent practice of psychology and is required by all state and provincial boards for licensure. The test costs $600 with an test center appointment fee of $87.50. Once your fees have been paid, you have 90 days to schedule and complete your exam. The EPPP is available year round at any of the many Pearson VUE testing facilities.

The EPPP consists of 225 multiple-choice questions in which you have 4 hours and 15 minutes to complete. You must answer 70% of the questions correctly for a passing grade. There are no scheduled breaks during the test. You may take breaks as needed, but the clock will continue to run during that time.

The exam covers the following areas:
  • Biological Bases of Behavior – 12% of the exam
  • Cognitive‐Affective Bases of Behavior – 13% of the exam
  • Social and Cultural Bases of Behavior – 12% of the exam
  • Growth and Lifespan Development – 12% of the exam
  • Assessment and Diagnosis – 14% of the exam
  • Treatment, Intervention, Prevention, and Supervision – 14% of the exam
  • Research Methods and Statistics – 8% of the exam
  • Ethical/Legal/Professional Issues – 15% of the exam
